My blogs are assessed on the following:

* i have submitted one each week; which i have done

* i have submitted 3 blogs for marking, which i have also done

* and i need a reflective ‘meta’ post; which i am doing now.

Through out the semester it was required of me to write a weekly blog post on our lectures from week 2. The content of the blog needed to consist of what we talked about in the lecture, what we did and didn’t understand and gow we could further our knowledge of the topic. I think the content of some of my blogs were very vague and i didn’t really go in to much depth with what i was talking about. Basically what i spoke about in my weekly blog posts was what was discussed in lectures, but as i didn’t really go to many lectures i had to read the lecture notes in order to know what was discussed. I think this really hindered the content of my blogs in a way, because i wasn’t there in person to grasp a full understanding of what was being talked about in the lecture. When setting up the blog we were required to create a blog roll of at least three people in our tutorial. A blog roll basically means that other people have a link on their page that allows them to access someones blog. I think i could have probably expanded on my blog roll so i had a greater audience. To be perfectly honest, i don’t think that anyone form class goes and looks at other peoples blogs just to read. So i am not really sure what the audience would be.

The overall traffic of my blog was not so great. The highest view of my blog was on my project b rationale., which had eleven views per day. Basically the traffic of my blog ranged from 0-6 views per day and i think that most of them were me showing my friends that i live with my blog ha ha.. Again i could have increased my overall traffic by adding more people to my blog roll, but its a bit late for that now.

As the course is called networked media, it is a requirement that i understand how my own blog functions as an example of networked media. Networked means to me how different things can be accessed through other means of transports, so they are connected through each other. So i think my blog functions as an example of networked media as i can lead to other blogs that are on the internet. I think also that i could have implemented some links into my blog posts to demonstrate my understandings of the lecture so to make my blog more networked.

As a part of this assessment criteria, i also need to submit 3 blog posts within this blog through links in order to have them marked. This was a bit of a tough decision because they are all so vague.

The first blog i decided to submit was week 2; which was my very first blog. i decided to submit this blog because i feel it is probably one of my better blogs because it is more detailed and i discuss a lot more. The link to this blog is:

The second blog i want to submit for marking is week 13, “the pressure is on”. I think i like this blog because i discuss what i would like to do with my project b. Ok so. I think that is all. I am getting a bit emotional knowing that it is my last blog post, but maybe not forever..

I think that i have done what was expected of me for this assessment. But i can definitely say that i am leaving this class with a lot more knowledge about networked media than what i originally possessed before attending these classes.

The process of creating this geo-narrative was a lot longer than what i first anticipated it to be. What i thought at first was that i would have to take a few photos and plot them out on map on google. Sounds easy? Well it wasn’t that easy.

I think for me the hardest part was deciding on a story. It was so hard to come up with one, i just had to cram until i did. Basically mine story was a bit of a documentary of my life and how i came to living in canberra. It involves my daily routine and what i enjoy doing.

I am a bit disappointed with my geo narrative for the following reasons:

1) the lines are really confusing and hard t determine where they are going

2) my story probably isn’t as stable as what it could be

3) my photos are a bit to big for the window but i didn’t have enough time to resize them.

I am still pretty happy with my geo narrative for the following reasons:

1) i finished it!

2) i had no idea how to even create a geo narrative coming into this assessment or how to even upload photos and make them work on this site.

I feel like i have learnt a lot whilst completing this assessment. I had to teach myself how to upload photos onto the google maps. It was so frustrating because the photos were not working at all, so i had to go into the discussion forum and read posts by other students on how to upload the photos and make them work. Hopefully i have done enough to pass this assessment this time. I will be really upset with myself if i submit it wrong again and fail.

I still don’t understand properly how to upload my assessment onto moodle. But hopefully i can do it! I’m hoping i have fitted my assessment to the criteria, but who knows. all i want is a pass. i will be so stoked.

I took all the photos to myself, with a digital camera and uploaded them onto facebook and copied the image address to my google map. I guess now i just have to leave it up to the markers to mark it.. if i pass great! if i fail i will just have to learn from my mistakes and fix it up.

Overall i am very happy with my geo narrative in the time frame i did it in. But theres one mistake i can learn form. DON’T LEAVE MY ASSESSMENTS TO THE LAST MINUTE.. haha

I guess i am going better than last time, because i actually know what i am doing this time.. shocking? I know!  As i mentioned in my previous blog post, i am doing a geo narrative on google maps, but i have changed my story line.. AGAIN! I can honestly say that this will happen a lot before i start properly..

I want to do a story that i can relate to and incorporate lots of photos in to.. I was thinking today to do something about like a girl at uni that is really shy and is teased, but its so cliche i think i will get ripped by the markers for, but i also think its not the story that matters, its the networked section of it, like if i get photos from flickr and get permission etc..

I think that this assessment is funner than the last because i love taking photos, but i hate writing rationales.. Next week the assessment is due and i am freaking out because i have 2 others due on the same day.. thats just mean..

Next week will be my rationale.. and then the next week will be my final blog post..  Thank god for that!!

I guess i should go start my assessment! wish me luck..

I really want to pass this one so i have been brain storming my tute today.. The concept of the assignment is really confusing though.. Because i didnt go to many lectures i don’t really understand what a data visualisation is.. Besides the fact it sounds boring i don’t want to do that one because it sounds hard.. So there fore i chose the geo narrative on google maps..

This option sounds more fun to me because i can be creative and make a story and take photos.. This is more me.. the things i like to do.. So i might enjoy this assessment as opposed to the other one.. But we will see!

For my idea i think i will base it on a country person moving to the big smokes, just like me.. or does that sound real boring and cliche?

A few questions keep pooping up in my head.. What to do? how to do it? and others.. it is straining my head!! Heres hoping it will all turn out for the best and actually let me pass.. All i can do is try and get help if i need it.. Besides the other ones are the worst.. ..

Our last lecture was all about data visualisation. Basically it is all about visual representation of abstract information versus the depiction of physical artifacts.

Within the lectre slides there was a lot of diagrams that consisted of dots. For example visualising 1 dot, then 4 (2 by 2) and so on.  Then with the dots it showed them in different colours, different positions and movment etc..The whole dot thing really confused me and i didnt really follow but it looked really cool on the big screen. But i still keep asking my self what Michael was on about..

Datavisualisation is translation if visual wetware software is used. Quantity is translated into scale, colour, shape, position and movement which th. This slide made the diagrams so much more easier to understand..

Datavisualision doesnt really make sense to me because it involves algorithimically organising stuff which is no use to me because i still dont know what that involves..

I guess this is really my last blog about networked media production unless i missed a week.. haha..

I missed out on this weeks lecture because the doctor has told me i am not well.. so i had to read the online notes, once again..

This week was all about multiplicity.. I would like to talk about what i learnt but i have a huge head ache and pain in the chest and i just don’t even understand a word of what was talked about..  There was a whole lot of definitions, diagrams etc..

I have really tried to understand it but it just doesn’t seem to be working.. I am beginning to think i don’t have what it takes to learn and know this stuff and put it into practice in the outside world.. I guess all i can do is try harder, go to lectures (if i get better) and cram, cram and cram some more..

I have realised now by failing the assessment i need to put in more effort to my assessments and take uni more seriously.. it hasn’t been as easy as i thought it would be, but it is a learning curve.. Hopefully next week i will have something productive to actually write about because i may understand next weeks stuff.. here’s hoping..

Another week, another lecture.. This weeks lecture was all about web 2.o.. apparently when people think of web 2.o the most common things that come to their minds are collective intelligence, ajax and cute shiney slidey stuff. 2.o is a reference to a software. It describes a percieved second generaion of the web 2.0. It is also about harnessing collective intelligence.

AJAX stands for asynchronous javascript and xml.

This weeks lecture was good because there was loads of cool stuff in it including the pictures and i actually learnt a lot.. It was a nice change from learning the html and css codes which just confused the hell out of me.. anyways i don’t know what else to say so i think that will do for this blog post.. until next time…

first i tried to do an online exhibition, but my idea was already being done, so i changed. after a while i gave up because i couldn’t think of a new idea and i am hopeless at html etc, and didn’t know how to do it on a blog..

So i ended up doing a reference page on a blog. For my reference page i chose a topic that has been in the news for quite some time. i chose to do a page on youth allowance and the new changes that are being taken through senate in the government at the moment. i chose this topic because it is something i wanted to learn m0re about and i know for a fact other people where i live were wondering if they were eligible for youth allowance and what the new changes were.

First off, i researched the topic using sites such as abc, sydney morning herald and the centrelink site, to compile the information i deemed to be relevant to this site. next i wrote a draft and made sure the information was correct and saved it as a word document. Once all my information was compiled and all accurate, i created a new blog using word press. I decided to call my blog/reference site, youth allowance and you because i feel that it includes the audience in the topic and it is also about them getting information from this site. Once i added all my information on my different blog posts i added links to the page so the audience can access the sites i used to get all the information about youth allowance. these links were put in my blogroll and inside the paragraphs of information.

I feel that this reference page fits the criteria as it touches upon why the government decided to make changes to youth allowance, the changes being made and it is also a current topic in the news. It also allows for people reading this site to gain extra knowledge on the topic coming form a fellow teenager.

I also added a tag cloud on the side of my blog, in order to make the blog posts more accessible to the readers so they can go straight to the blog they wish to read.

At the moment there is only five post because that is the only information i deemed to be of relevance until  a decision is made by the senate of whether the new changes will be made or not.

I feel that i could have improved the overall layout of my reference page and maybe made it look more appealing to the reader. I also feel that the website leading to my page is a bit too long and confusing, but for now it will do; “jvsyouthallowance.wordpress.com”.

I really enjoyed making this assessment because i got a lot out of it, knowledge wise and i hope those people who read it do to.  Although there are things that can be improved and corrected i still feel the end product is a very good effort. But i guess that is for the markers to decide.

On a whole different note. My first assessment is due next week and i haven’t even started. I know i am doing an online exhibition, but im not sure what of yet cuz someone had the same idea as me so im pretty well screwed.. I don’t really know what else to say until i start my project, and i don’t really understand this weeks lecture. So i guess that’s all..

One of the first things we learnt was, i think, HTML & CSS. This I understood the most probably. HTML stands for hypertext markup language – Pretty self explanatory. CSS stands for cascading  style sheet. The style sheet part is easy enough to understand but I still didn’t quite understand what the “cascading” fully meant. This basically just means inheritance.

When we began to learn about semantic markup, I was starting to get a bit confused at first, but then I caught up. Semantic Mark-up is the name given to ‘marking up’ or coding your sites with codes that represents the information contained in elements, and is descriptive. I like semantic markup because it makes reading code easier because you can see and understand what is happening instead of being confused by a page of messed up jiberrish.

I missed the lecture where we talked about censorship, so I’m not really sure what happened or what we learnt about that. I guess with this the government want to censor the internet to protect children or something, in order to make some sites harder to access, but I really don’t know so I’m not going to pretend that I do! I guess this could be both good and bad. It would really annoy me if it blocked any of the sites I like but I can’t really do anything about it can i!

Privacy! This something everyone needs. In a sense there is still privacy, but it is getting harder and harder to keep things from other people seeing that they are not supposed to because people can just hack into anything these days.

API’s – the relationship or connection between semantic markup and computer-readable data, and how an API requires that data be structured right is still not that understandable to me, but I guess I haven’t understand it yet. But I know there is one there!
